Population aging has aroused extensive concern all over the world. In face of this challenge in Hong Kong, we funded Longevity Design House for the Mobility Cart project to make the elderly live better in terms of functional state and quality of life.
Research and Development Mobility Cart project with Longevity Design House
To help address Hong Kong's aging population trend, a research and development project for a mobility cart for the elderly began in 2020. It gives us great pleasure to fund Longevity Design House (LDH), Hong Kong's inventive aging furniture design social enterprise, in carrying out this project together with the joint effort of furniture design students from the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI).

This project is an innovative project leveraging the talents of young designers from HKDI. They are guided and financed by Longevity Design House through a design workshop, product development, user feedback, manufacturing, and delivery process to produce 3 different design prototypes for needy elderly users specially selected by their social welfare NGO.

50 mobility carts were manufactured and delivered to the homes of the selected elderly who indicated they wanted a cart, many of whom had participated in the product development user feedback. A special thank you goes to LDH, and the collaboration partners invited by LDH including Hong Kong Design Institute, Yan Oi Tong Elderly Centre, Hong Kong Family Welfare Society, and Profilia to enable multi-stakeholder participation and a customer-centric product development process.

Longevity Design House
Longevity is a Hong Kong-based social enterprise established in 2015. They provide interior design and technological solutions for those with accessibility issues in their homes. Its mission is to help the elderly and those with physical disabilities renovate their living spaces so they are safe and accessible to them, regardless of financial background. They also aim to broaden their target audience as their designs can also apply to those that are preparing for retirement or other younger audiences as their designs could be stylish as well.
